September is approaching ever quicker and with it comes inevitably an end to the summer vacation period. Schools and universities are about to start again, the while the holidays come to an end.
But there is good news as well: The start of a new semester at MGIMO University means as well the start of a new year of German Studies Russia!
This year we are looking forward to 27 new students from different faculties to find out more about Germany. All of them already have a profound knowledge of German and enthusiasm to discover more about the country. So let’s have a quick look at the upcoming dates….
The regular semester starts on Tuesday the 1st of September, directly followed by the first tutorial on Wednesday the 2nd. At the tutorial the students will get an introduction into the program, its requirements and what they can expect. Additionally, they will be taught about the online-learning platform Blackboard and be prepared for their first official class, “Political science and Germany’s political system”, which will start right after on the 7th of September.
The students will begin with an introduction into Germany’s political system through to the 11th of September. The topics will range from the scientific methods of Germany’s political institutions to current debates on the structure and mechanisms of the European Union.
The next important date will be a lecture at the chair for German language at MGIMO University by program coordinator Dominik Sonnleitner. The aim of the lecture is to give the Russian audience a better insight into the ongoing debates, issues and developments in Germany. Accordingly, the topic of the German-language lecture will be “Migration and refugees in Germany and Europe – developments and reactions”. The lecture will take place on Tuesday, the 8th of September.
We are all looking forward to an eventful start in the new semester.
